    Maximum power I got out of a Raven Performance with the stock 21" Turbine wheels on Pilot Sport 4S rubber was 591.9 kW... That's 794 battery horsepower (you could say, brake horsepower, or crank horsepower lol). This was done on V10.0 2019.12.2 With drivetrain loss rear motor power peaked at 375.0 kW and front peaked at 185.0 kW. That's 751 HP at the wheels. That's only 5.7% drivetrain loss, where my older P100D had about 7% drivetrain loss

    Bjorn. Were you aware that if you hold down the Ludicrous + button after you have selected "Max Battery", it still does the starfield easter egg, "I want my Mommy" thing? It would have been interesting to have tested to see if this does actually increase the performance? Mr DragTimes says it does but I could not tell any difference in my P100D.

    So the conclusion is that the Tesla performance is variable? It seems to take a lot of experience to get the best out of it. Where a Taycan is select Sport Plus and launch it? Personally, I don’t expect a journalist to be an expert in Teslas. It is a weakness of the design that it is so fiddly.

    Que to the chargers.. when people say they can't have an electric car, they are not talking about 1 000 0000 kr Teslas, but about 400.000 kr "normal" cars. Tesla owners often answers "thats bs, everybody can have an electric car, there is plenty of chargers and you can easy go 400km, pull a heavy trailer, and charging doesn't take much longer than filling gas :)

    Electric battery power is not mechanical motor power, and efficiency is bad at those peak loads. So please do not try to convert these kW Numbers into 800+ (mechanical) horsepowers. They are meaningless.

    Bjørn dont forget that power is not torque!.. what pull you back in your seat is torque ( Nm units). The Power( kWunits) is expressing at up to which max speed that torque can be sustained... the kW just multiply the speed x torque , that's it. this is very common that people confuse torque and power. you can have only 50kW and feel the same acceleration ( given by the torque) then what you have at 560kW.. it is just that at 560kW you get that torque at much higher speed!

    All very interesting, but none of this changes the fact that the 0-60mph time is actually 2.6-2.7s and the 0-100kph is 2.7-2.8s. The 2.3s quoted by Tesla is to NHRA measurement, which excludes the 1ft roll out at the start. After 1ft, a Model S is doing 6mph. So the 2.3s quoted all the time is from 6-60mph not from rest. The Top Gear video was edited together to make a professional and entertaining piece. I have no doubt that it’s the result of several different runs, many of which would have been to capture different angles. I’m almost certain the result of the one race they did is correct, and the times they’ve quoted for both cars are accurate. Time will tell of course, but I’m struggling to understand why everyone is so obsessed with trying to somehow prove that TopGear ‘faked’ the results when they actually align perfectly with plenty of data thats already out there.

    You guys should try this again but this time make sure you guys always start at the same speed between different modes, say 30km/h or wherever there is no traction difficulties on the snow tires. Someone though has to do this at the drag strip to see the difference between range mode and ludicrous.

    Ive seen a Top Gear video where they drag race a Tesla Model S against a Porsche Taycan and they had so much trouble launching the Model S that they had to use stats from a 2017 race which was a shame because they didnt correlate with the finish difference in car lengths so they had a spend a lot of time in the cutting room making all the difficult pictures fit together......dedication to the art that is. You guys you just make a film! Just show us stats! You should take a lesson from the professionals, we need a bunch of chumps feeding us shit on a massive budget that they force UK viewers to stump up the funds for..........by law.

    Range mode is simply overruled when you step on it, it's like an OR function, not an AND function.

      1555 on the first test, with range mode it didn't go above 530 then range mode off and it did 1555 then with range mode on 530 again on the highway Think it's the actual power used at the rear motor, wish he had the front motor on screen too

    In the video, it's unclear whether you used Tesla's Launch Mode by holding the "Ludicrous +" for 8 sec. (acc. to Drag Times), which should also have given another graphic in the display. If not, there is perhaps more even power available...?

    Used launch mode with summer tires in a 2019 Model S Raven Performance. SoC was 95% and battery was 50°C. Max power output was 579kW.

      That is a very skewed way to look at it. First yes Tesla has its own network because Tesla built it. The other networks open to everyone are not built by the automakers. Second the other automakers could use Tesla's network, but choose not too. I cant really blame them too much as it came with the stipulation of helping to build more superchargers. Either way eventually it will get to a point where the average EV driver doesn't care about the name on the charger as long as it has the best price or charge speed. Just like I don't care if i stop at a Shell, BP, or Exxon station, whichever one is more convenient or cheaper.

    Bjorn, your max power in L+ mode is increased to 1550kw temporary. In range mode it stays 531. The traction control due to grip is probably the limiting factor in how much power you can provide to the wheels. Try with other tyres and optimal road conditions to see a bigger difference.

Not that I, personally, care much about the drag racing.. but just so we can see the unbiased truth and testing.. and I'm sure you guys will show a lot more information about the differences, good and bad, between the two cars.     I did this test with my P100D and the dragy and the 1/4 mile times and MPH were very close, range mode on and off... I didn't report on it since it's not a Raven Model....

    If you want to demonstrate Max Power you really shouldn't slow down the car before every attempt. Power is not the same as acceleration. Power is the multiple of speed and torque. Yeah, I know: Norwegian speed limits... But you probably broke them several times ;) Anyway 531kW electrical power on to the asphalt through winter tires is quite impressive.

    It might be not a matter of peak power, but more of power curve.       Alexandru Rohozneanu What is it with people like you who have to insist their fanboy product is better than anything else? Whether it’s iOS vs Android, mac vs pc, Tesla vs Porsche, it’s all the same and just as much of an expression of juvenile tribalism. The fact that there is finally some challenge to Tesla in the EV market is a good thing, and there is plenty of room in the market for EV models to cannibalise sales from fossils destined to go the same way the dinosaurs they run on. Consumer choice is a pretty basic part of capitalism, no? Just get someone competent (ie not Top Gear) to do the race properly, and quite frankly I don’t give a hoot which one comes out on top. Better yet, have the cars face off in a challenge that is far more relevant to 99.9% of car owners like Bjørn’s 1000km test.

      @Alexandru Rohozneanu Ok, it seems that you own a Taycan or maybe work at Porsche? What is the maximum peak power of Taycan if outside temperature is lets say -10c and you don`t pre-heat the cars battery??? Its significantly less then what it can give at ideal temperature range of the battery itself! You do realize how complex is the problem of thermal management of batteries... Yes, Porsche opted for 800v architecture because it has a lot of advantages but charging infrastructure is not there yet and also batteries are limited in terms of chemistry, discharge/charge rating etc... And by the way, do you admit that in ideal situation(1 hour pre-heat at winter temp) model s is still the fastest car?
