The 2010s: A Reflection Back On A Wacky Decade

The 2010s sure were crazy weren't they. How will history remember the 2010s? Will future generations see it as a terrible time, or not that bad? After much deliberation, here is my take.

You forgot the social conditioning, you forgot the JFK speech when talking about the 70s as it lead to the assasination of every black rights activist leader from MLK to the Panthers, you forgot corporations taking over news media slowly buy buying them out and centralizing them over the decades and that being the reason why news media died as people turned to online sources as an alternative that actually attempted to be unbiased or at least was passionate enough to advocate for their side with a better journalistic standard than many journalists in popular news media. The condiotning the underlies it all. Many of these hings where symptoms, not the root. You're right about people being able to talk one to one through the proliferation if tech and access to the internet but theres so many cornerstones that could have been discussed. Especially when it comes to the wars after 911, the us going in without any proof of weapons of mass destruction which was later admitted, being in it for the resources. And all the other games being played behind the scenes "A worldwide conspiracy that advances around the globe through covert means, conscripting military, economic, political, intelligence means into a a tightly knit framework... its dissenters are silenced not praised, no secret is published, no mistake revealed". Loosely paraphrased but come on. If they had already been around for decades in the 60s, what do you think they did over the next 50 years to follow? These are people who went through the world wars, and some of they were some sick individuals. Following the Kennedy assasination all the black rights activists being assassinated, followed by the CIA funneling drugs into the black community to poison and kill a generation. You see no connection to between these things and the ramifications they would have into the future from those points? The proxy wars and destabalizing governments to follow, expanding power and neutering potential enemies. you look at the world through to kind a lense even though you address some of the resulting symptoms in terms of the realities of war and the impact on socities But those are ripples. not the stone cast, Not the ones throwing it

  • Drawnby1

I think the 2010s will be remembered as that time that the US could still be fixed if you swapped leaders.Trump spent his energy trying to revive old, outdated philosophies and traditions instead of focusing on actually making america great again. China rose and started eating America’s lunch in plain sight. America isolated itself with Trump’s lack of maturity. Russia also rose again and allied with China. Now COVID19 will further erode the power of America because unlike China, we’re not overcoming the disease and the common people will start to starve due to the freezing of most jobs and the quarantine. Folks, America might have hit the iceberg. We might sink rapidly or over a period of a century but due to the lack of leadership in the oval office and this outbreak, we’re kind of fucked. And this isn’t my opinion, it’s my hypothesis due to reading the patterns of history.

interesting take... however blaming Brexit solely on the Syrian refugee crisis is erroneous. It was an issue, but far more important was internal EU migration from the poorer states (almost all of which are ex-Communist nations that joined in the mass expansion of 2004) to the richer members, of which the UK saw an unexpectedly large share. And this against the background of a severe recession in which many people became unemployed or were forced to compete for low-paid jobs. As controlling this flow within the EU is impossible (as membership entails allowing the free movement of people), many saw the only solution to leave. There were many other reasons as well of course (the democratic deficit, gradual morphing of a trade bloc into a proto-state with no public vote on it etc.)

The take on journalism is I think the most interesting. The rise of social media certainly does make sense for how the media acts today. They started trying to dismiss anything on social media as “Fake news” or “Russian propaganda” and when that didn’t work they became opinion outlets
